Lot Control

 Lot :  Represent /identifies a batch of item you receive and store.

Usage : Its used to identify the batch . The month and year can be viewed.

Example : Lot number used in Pharmaceutical industry ,Paint Manufacturing industry . 

A lot number is a combination of an alphanumeric prefix and a numeric suffix. When you define an item, you can specify the starting lot prefix and the starting lot number. Oracle Inventory uses this information to generate defaults during transaction entry. You can establish lot control for an item when define it.

Lot Control Set Up @ Organization Level :

1. At organization level

2. At Item Level

3. User Defined

At Organization level : The information provided in the organization parameter will be taken during material transaction for issue or receipt.Lot Control Uniqueness options 

1.  None 

2.  Across Items.

None : No uniqueness will be followed . The same lot number can be used for any items in that Inventory organization .

Across Items : Uniqueness will be followed across the Inventory organization.

Lot Control Set Up @ Item Level :

Lot Control Item Level Options:

1. No Control

2. Full Control

No control: Do not establish lot control for the item.

Full control: Track inventory balances by lot number.

If you choose lot control you must assign lot numbers when you receive the item into inventory. Thereafter, when you transact this item, you must provide a lot number you specified when you received the item.

At Item Level : The information provided in the  Item level parameter will be used during the material transaction for issue or receipt User Defined :  User can enter define any serial numbers as they wish during transactions.

Transaction Process Flow :

Here we have kept the lot will be generated at organization level so it will choose the prefix and  length and zero pad suffix from here. Zero pad suffix will add zeros with the prefix provided with total length provided.

Create Item go to inventory tab and in lot control mention as full control only then it will work.

Example Miscellaneous Receipt 

Click lot / Serial control .

You can click generate lot and it will generate lot number

Here the prefix number are generated based on the organization parameter setup because we have given as organization level.

We can generate the lot or we can create the user defined name here . During issue also we can create the lot number as we need .Save the transactionExample Miscellaneous Issue

Click lot / Serial control .

You can select the lot number from the listed Lots. Incase if you try to use new lot which does not hold stock then inventory will drive in negative.Save the transactions.
